Youths In Balaclava
I first encountered Youths in Balaclava on the streets of Singapore while working on an assignment for the opening of the Dover Street Market. Impressed by their subversive outlook and intense creativity, we began making pictures together, culminating in the photo book Youths in Balaclava. This project, which captured their energy, began an ongoing relationship. And I later accompanied YIB to Paris Fashion Week and continued to document their journey from Singapore's underground scene to the international fashion stage. The work emphasises the tension between their underground ethos and the global fashion industry's demands, while also highlighting their collaborative, authentic creative process.
